Introduction:
Solid Rock
Sunset is one of three locations for a church called Solid Rock. It is a
gathering of 250-300 people who meet weekly in Hillsboro and then branch out
into smaller groups of 10-20 people throughout the week. These smaller groups
meet throughout the Hillsboro/Beaverton/Bethany area and seek to love and serve
specific communities that they are a part of outside of the church such as
their workplaces, neighborhoods and schools.
Justification:
The members of this community
are tied together first and foremost by their shared belief system. The full
name of the church is Solid Rock: A Jesus Church meaning that this is a church
where people do their best to take the principles Jesus taught and put them
into practice in daily life. There is the common mission, “to love and serve
those in the Sunset corridor and beyond.” (Facebook) Additionally, it is a
community comprised of people who live within the Hillsboro or Beaverton area.
Commonality in convictions, vision and location leads to strong ties between
many members of this community.
Boundaries:
For research purposes, this
project will focus on those who come to Sunday gatherings two or more times a
month and have done so for four months or longer.
